Digital Test Report (DTR)

According to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025, the test report is another way of documenting the results of a test or measurement in addition to the calibration certificate. The test report must also describe test or measurement results accurately, clearly, unambiguously and objectively with all information required for the understanding, interpretation and repeatability of a test or measurement. In contrast to the calibration certificate, the test report does not necessarily have to contain information on the measurement uncertainties achieved or the metrological traceability. As for the calibration certificate the necessary and optional requirements for a test report are regulated in DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025.

Due to the lower formal requirements for test reports with otherwise high similarity to calibration certificates the implementation of the digital test report can be completely orientated towards the developments of the digital calibration certificates (DCC). This means that all information significant to the test report can be represented by elements of the two XML Schema Definitions (XSD) relevant to the DCC, i.e., the DCC XSD and the D-SI XSD (Digital System of Units).

Like the DCC, the DTR is divided into five sections:

  • administrative data
  • measurement results
  • comments
  • human readable document
  • digital signature

The sections „administrative data“ and „measurement results“ are mandatory, as they cover the relevant information according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 and their structure is strictly specified by the DCC XSD to enable machine interpretability. The other three sections are optional, with the section “comments” providing space for individual information without the specified XML structure of the DCC XSD.
